Description

Within the project scope, existing data on fish species of Natura2000 sites in Croatia were analyzed and new field research was carried out in 2022 and 2023. The data on abundance and distribution of fish species of interest to the EU in the Natura2000 designated for fish species conservation were acquired. Based on the results, conservation objectives and measures for Natura2000 sites designated for fish species conservation were proposed. The data were acquired using different methodologies, depending on the target species. Methodologies are described in the project report.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,408 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

Within the project scope, existing data on target fish species (listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive) of Natura2000 sites in Croatia were analyzed and new field research was carried out in 2022 and 2023.

Title Defining SMART objectives and conservation measures for insufficiently known fish species

Sampling Methods

Sampling methodologies are described in the project report (in Croatian). In general, areas with insufficient data were identified within each Natura2000 site designated for conservation of freshwater fish species listed on the annexes of the EU Habitats Directive. On these sites new field research was performed.

Study Extent Natura2000 sites in all of Croatia

Method step description:

  1. 1. Desktop analysis of existing data on fish species of EU interest 2. Identification of areas ( grid cells) with insufficient data 3. Field research targeted to the grid cells with the least data using different methodologies, depending on the species concerned, performed by fish species experts 4. Identification validation performed by a fish species expert 5. Data structured in an appropriate format and matched to DwC
