Description

The data set represents records of birds collected through EU Natura 2000 Integration Project – Field research and laboratory analysis of newly collected inventory data for the taxonomic groups: Actinopterygii and Cephalaspidomorphi, Amphibia and Reptilia, Aves, Chiroptera, Decapoda, Lepidoptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Trichoptera. Inventory mapping of all bird species (breeding birds and wintering birds) was conducted for a total of 175 terrestrial grid cells of the size 10×10 km and 175 10×10 km grid cells along Croatian coast line. Grid cells were surveyed during the duration of the project (2014-2016), twice during breeding season and once during wintering season.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 102,891 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data

The collection of new distributional data about concerned taxonomic groups in the Republic of Croatia is implemented through the following phases: Phase 1: Intensive field research of priority areas with data recording Phase 2: Laboratory processing of collected data and specimens. This phase includes necessary identification of species for collected specimens and data analysis of collected data. Project has been conducted between April 2014 until December 2016. During the project has been collected 147.843 records about 9 taxonomic groups.

Title EU Natura 2000 Integration Project (IBRD Br. 8021-HR) – Field research and laboratory analysis of newly collected inventory data for the taxonomic groups: Actinopterygii and Cephalaspidomorphi, Amphibia and Reptilia, Aves, Chiroptera, Decapoda, Lepidoptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Trichoptera
Study Area Description Inventory mapping of all bird species (breeding birds and wintering birds) was conducted for all grid cells as specified in the Contract for Consultants' Services covering the entire Croatia. A total of 175 terrestrial grid cells of the size 10x10 km were surveyed during the duration of the project (2014-2016), twice during the breeding season and once during the wintering season. In addition, grid cells along the marine coast were surveyed, covering 175 10x10 km grid cells along the Croatian coastline.

Sampling Methods

Point transect, tape lures, survey of wintering birds on terrestrial habitats in designated square grid cells, coastal water-bird survey along the Adriatic coast.

Study Extent Whole of Croatia
Quality Control Species identifications are verified by an expert.

Method step description:

  1. Records are result of the field research conducted from 2014 to 2016. Species were identified on the field by an expert, which later filled Excel form.
