Description

Within the framework of the OPKK project "Development of the System for Monitoring the Status of Species and Habitat Types" - GROUP 20: "Creation and development of monitoring programs for cetaceans and sea turtles, with capacity building for stakeholders in the monitoring and reporting System", existing data on the abundance and distribution of cetaceans and sea turtles were gathered. This dataset includes observations of various species of cetaceans and sea turtles over the period 1920-2022.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 6,999 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Title Development of the System for Monitoring the Status of Species and Habitat Types

Sampling Methods

various sampling methodologies; some records are acquired randomly by public, without any structured sampling protocol

Study Extent The area of the Adriatic Sea under Croatian jurisdiction
Quality Control dataset consists of observations verified by experts and unverified observations

Method step description:

  1. Records are results of various projects (scientific research, citizen science, etc.). Data are gathered through the OPKK Monitoring project commissioned by Institute for Environment and Nature, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, a Croatian GBIF node. Records were structured in the table form and interpreted and entered in the appropriate table format and mapped to DarwinCore.
